JCC write up

This extremely practical capsule was designed to expand my existing wardrobe. I have many pieces that don't get worn and needed some neutral basics to put with them. I will likely not wear the pieces altogether, although you can see that it would be possible.
I think I have created a basic capsule that is eminently wearable. The items go with many things as well as each other and most are multi-seasonal.
The jacket is a modifeid version of Vogue 8480. The skirt, cropped pants, and purse were all self-drafted. The tops is a purchased item.

I won't wear them together as much as with other pieces, I think.


The top doesn't look as green as this in real life. It is actually a good match to the pants and perfect with the skirt. I might end up hemming the skirt a bit shorter and taking it in a bit soon. In fact, everything has been made to be taken in easily. I have put on about 15 pounds (which I had lost earlier in the year-eeks) and hope to lose it. I have been so busy with work that I let myself go in diet and exercise to save time. Ordering in is expensive and probably not healthy. Just home cooking should help with the weight loss. I should get a better picture of the side seams on the skirt- the pattern is matched up brilliantly, IMVHO of course!
The pants are elasticated at the waist. I also took four darts in the back and two in the front. I had planned to add a fly, but the fabric was so stretchy I decided against. I wore them yesterday and they have stretched out a bit already, so they will need to come in sooner rather than later.

New clothes

Teal wool jersey top and skirt from Simplicity 4095 and the same outfit on me in a silly pose. I was trying to make my hips look slimmer.
My husband came home while I was trying these on and ended up photographing me, then taking me out for lunch. I think I need new clothes more often!

Since the camera was out and I already had the lipstick on I made him take more pictures of me. I am usually behind the camera, so this doesn't happen very often. Here is the same outfit with a jacket I made last year and again with my ten year coat and a handbag I made.

Tops done!

I now have eight tops done for SWAP, so I can eliminate the two worst ones. I have been wearing two of them so much that one has stretched out of shape and one has pilled.
Now onto the trousers!

SWAP Garments

Darn- this won't keep the format it was made in.
Here is my SWAP. I included a purchased garment at the beginning that I hope to replace.
So far there are five tops sewn, one skirt, one pair of trousers and others started.
I might just do this!

SWAP

I participated in Timmel's "Sewing with a Plan" SWAP Contest last winter. My goal was to complete the contest, which I was able to do. Since then I have watched other contests and sewn items that corresponded, without actually entering the contest.
I wrote to Julie at Timmel last week asking to enter her latest contest. It is based on adding a detail to the garment that is not in the pattern. I plan on making a jacket with some applique/embroidery to it. This is not really a stretch for me in technique, since this is what I do for work, but doing something that I would actually wear will be a challenge. I like things subtle and dull, but somehow gaudiness takes over any project I plan. I cannot even decorate my Christmas tree without thinking that it needs MORE! More sparkle, more lights, more decorations! Less is not more in Irish dance.
